Often those who are choosing a wig for the first time can be put off by the look of a synthetic wig or NHS wig, but here at Mandeville we can give you the hair you deserve.

CHEMOTHERAPY FAQS

It's a lot to take in - what can we help you with?

Can you wear a wig throughout chemotherapy?

Yes, our Readymade collection provides the perfect solution for hair loss caused through chemotherapy. It is usually preferable to come to the studio before hair loss occurs so that our consultant can assess sizing options, ensuring that the fit will work throughout your cancer treatment and regrowth. Our wigs are secured using double sided medical tape and/or clips, which are interchangeable depending on head size and your personal hair loss.

How much are wigs for cancer patients?

Our ReadyMade collection is perfect if you need a wig quickly. The cost of a wig from our ReadyMade collection is £4,290 and are easy to care for and style at home with your Mandeville accessories. You should never pay VAT on your wig, hair replacement system, hair pieces or any other headwear while experiencing medical hair loss. We will ask you to fill out a VAT form as proof of your exemption.

Will wearing a wig prevent future hair growth?

No, your Mandeville wig will not prevent any future hair growth, as it is initially fitted to the scalp to be supportive of the regrowth process. Our foundations are fully breathable and are secured using an interchangeable selection of either double sided tape, medical tape and/or clips, which can be personalised to suit your regrowth pattern.

Will wearing a wig during chemotherapy feel uncomfortable?

Comfort is a top priority when selecting a wig during chemotherapy as medical wigs are a garment people wear everyday. Our wigs, especially those designed for chemotherapy patients, are made with lightweight, breathable materials to ensure comfort. It's important to choose a wig from a reputable wig fitter and maker like Mandeville London, a wig shop studio that understands the specific needs of chemotherapy patients who may also have a sensitive scalp or skin condition.

How do I choose the right size and style of wig?

Choosing the right size and style of chemotherapy wigs starts with a personal consultation, in person, with our wig specialists in our London studio, who can guide you through the process. For size, measuring your head correctly is crucial for a snug, comfortable fit. As for style, consider what will make you feel most like yourself, whether that's matching your natural hair or trying something new. Most wig fitters will offer a wide range of styles and colours to choose from and at Mandeville London, we will tailor and style your chemotherapy wig to your preferences.

Can a chemotherapy wig look natural?

Absolutely! Mandeville high-quality chemotherapy wigs made from real European human hair look incredibly natural, as opposed to synthetic wigs. The key is in the craftsmanship of the wig and the quality of materials used. Customisation options, such as lace fronts for a natural hairline can create a look that mimics natural hair growth and allows for versatile styling. For more information about how to style your wig, please visit our Tutorials page, where we guide you through the process of pinning, washing, brushing and styling the wigs.

How soon after starting chemotherapy should I get my wig?

It's advisable to start looking for your wig before chemotherapy begins. This timing allows you to match the wig to your natural hair colour and style if desired and ensures you have it ready when hair loss typically begins, usually a few weeks after the first treatment.

Will insurance cover the cost of my chemotherapy wig?

Many insurance companies do cover the cost of a wig for chemotherapy patients, often referred to as a "cranial prosthesis" for medical purposes. It's important to check with your insurance provider for specific coverage details and requirements for reimbursement.
